Miku is enfleshed at the peak of the database. Not only is her physical self a clear aggregate of moe-elements but she is, quite literally, the mascot for a Vocaloid database company, Crypton Future Media. She was born from a database to sell a database, and gained such popularity that she then became constantly re-databased across fansites such as TINAMI. Miku subsists entirely off of this fragmentation-aggregation-fragmentation’ (FAF’) logic. She was designed for marketability, designed from a quantitative analysis of what would evoke affection. She was designed from a vocal database, one that took a real woman’s real voice, fragmented it into its constituent sounds, affectations, words, and syllables, mechanized them and superimposed a saccharine, synthetic, vocal acousmetre. Saki Fujita, the woman referred to and revered as Miku’s “Vocal Provider” now does impressions of Miku, so alien has her own voice become, so fragmented and aggregated.
